Wednesday was a historic day for women's polo at the AAP’s Alfredo Lalor Headquarters in Pilar with round one of the inaugural Argentine Open Polo Championship for Women.

Teams with female handicaps totaling 23 to 30 are participating. Among them are the best players from Argentina, Germany, the United States, France and England, including Nina Clarkin, the highest-rated female player in the world (10).

On opening day Santa María de Lobos defeated La Varzea Goose Creek 8 -4, La Dolfina Brava def La Dolfina Cría Fax 14-3, and Ellerstina def La Dolfina Brava II 7-2.

The tournament continues tomorrow with the second of three qualifying rounds. All times are local (two hours later than U.S. Eastern time).

Friday, November 24 - Alfredo Lalor Headquarters in Pilar

15.30 - Ellerstina vs. La Dolfina Cría Fax

17.00 - La Dolfina Brava vs. La Varzea Goose Creek

17.00 - Santa María de Lobos vs. La Dolfina Brava II

The final will take place December 2 in Palermo as a prelude to the 124th Argentine Open HSBC Polo Championship final.
